Revising the Information Technology Act, 2000
A new report by Rishab Bailey, Vrinda Bhandari, Renuka Sane, and Karthik Suresh, offers a comprehensive analysis of four key topics in the IT Act, 2000 - censorship, intermediary liability, surveillance, and cybersecurity.
They argue that the Indian IT Act is outdated and the advent of new digital technologies over the last decade requires better safety and security protocols. Using a common theme of promoting trust in the digital ecosystem, the authors have recommended various amendments to the law.

Ajay Shah comments on the volatility in global financial systems and its degree of impact on India, in his article titled - Safety in the Storm. He argues that the complexities for India are relatively limited as the requirement for capital import — the gap between domestic investment and domestic savings — is presently quite small.
Watch his conversation on the subject with Jaspreet Singh Kalra on BQ Prime.
The proposed Mediation Bill in India mandates pre-litigation mediation for civil and commercial disputes. In her article on BQ Prime, Pavithra Manivannan presents empirical evidence to show why this will not be effective for litigants. She argues that litigants are well incentivized to find alternative pathways for dispute resolution that best serve the mutual interest of both parties and a law-mandated solution is unlikely to produce better outcomes.
In their article - Are The Bar Council's New Rules On Foreign Lawyers A Game Changer? Karthik Suresh and Varsha Aithala discuss the recently notified rules on the registration and regulation of foreign law firms and lawyers in India. They argue that if the rules were to attain their intended objective, the BCI needs to develop its regulatory capacity.
Ajay Shah co-hosts the episode - Josh Felman Tries to Make Sense of the World - with Amit Varma on TSATU.
